I love the back to school season as a parent of a LIFE student. Our boys’ excitement is contagious as they can’t wait to see their friends again and meet their new teacher. We buy all of the new uniform clothes, secure shiny new shoes and have high anticipations of a great new year.
I don’t know about you, but after the first week or so, the dreamy facade of back to school reality hits. Early morning wake-ups (I call them drag-outs) accompanied by making school lunches/snacks, prepping uniforms, ensuring homework is completed and test are studied for correctly. All of a sudden, the Spanish summer ends, and the new school year instantly changes our family rhythms.
This week, I was reminded of the verse Isaiah 4:26: “Waymaker, miracle worker, light in the darkness, my God, that is who you are”. You may know this verse from the popular Christian song, Waymaker, and it has become one of our anthems in life. As things get busy, harder, more full, less calm, I am reminded of this verse to give me a fresh perspective.
I’m not sure what feels harder to you this back to school season as a LIFE parent; maybe it’s a harder workload for your child who is aging or the social difficulties they’re facing with a new group of friends. Maybe you’re trying to balance a work and school schedule that sometimes feels like it’s too much. You are seen by the Waymaker, our Lord Jesus, who reminds you that He is your light in the darkness.
We’re looking forward, not begrudgingly, to a wonderful new school year with our students surrounded by teachers and staff full of life, love, peace and joy.
